Bamberg Events & Festivals

As the hospitality of the Franconians is unique and people love coming together and celebrate, there are events and festivals going on in Bamberg throughout the year. Nearly every weekend in summer, for example, one of the numerous street festivals takes place somewhere in the city.

Calderon Festival

The Calderon Festival, a famous open-air theater festival, is carried out in the courtyard of the Alte Hofhaltung every year in June. Although most of the plays are in German, this festival might be worth a visit just to enjoy the great atmosphere in the courtyard.

Street Magician Festival

This open-air magician festival is not only loved by children but also by adults. It takes place at Grüner Markt in July.

Sandkerwa

Originally a religious festival, the Sandkerwa (Sandkirchweih) now is the largest and most famous street festival not only of Bamberg, but of Franconia. Every year in August, thousands of people come there and celebrate in the "Altstadt" for five days.
