Historical Museum

In Bamberg's Historical Museum in the Council Chamber of the Alte Hofhaltung, you find a great collection of historical works of art, including for example the famous "Bamberger Götzen".

Cathedral Treasury
(Diözesanmuseum)

The southern part of Bamberg's main cathedral houses the Cathedral Treasury (Diözesanmuseum). Built by the architect Balthasar Naumann, not only church treasures but also fine textiles of the 11th century are displayed in this museum.

Bavarian State Gallery
(Bayerische Staatsgalerie)

The Bavarian State Gallery in Bamberg's Residence exhibits a collection of paintings of medieval, Renaissance and baroque style.

Ludwig Collection Bamberg
(Sammlung Ludwig Bamberg)

The baroque tower of the Old City Hall by Balthasar Neumann accommodates Europe's largest collection of finest porcelain - most of it from Meissen and Strassbourg.

Villa Concordia

In the Concordia Palace in Concordiastr. 28, regular exhibitions of contemporary artists take place.



ETA Hoffmann House
(ETA Hoffmann Haus)

The famous composer and writer ETA Hoffmann used to live in this house at Schillerplatz 26 from 1808 to 1813. Now, there is a museum in his former home giving information on the life of ETA Hoffmann.

Brewery Museum
(Brauereimuseum)

When you are on Michaelsberg and visit the former Benedictine monastery, you must not miss the Franconian Brewery Museum in its cellars. You learn more about the history of the monks brewing beer there from 1122 and about the process of making beer, particularly Rauchbier.
