Bamberg - also referred to as the Franconian Rome - was built on seven hills and lies at two waterways, the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal and the Regnitz River in Germany.
These two features form the structure of Bamberg that is divided in three parts:
The ecclesiastical city in the mountains on the east side of the river, the Cathedral Hill, is dominated by Bamberg's main cathedral, the Dom. On an island on the river, there is the old inner city where many of the sights are located, for example the Old City Hall, the Böttinger House and the Concordia Palace. |
